New book on Choral ConductingDate: April 24, 2009
ChoralNet users may be interested to know that my new book, Choral Conducting and the Construction of Meaning, has been published in April. It is the outcome of a five-year research project investigating two central, and interrelated questions:
1. What is the mechanism by which a conductor's bodily demeanour has a directly audible impact on performers' voices?
2. To what extent are the characteristic gestural styles associated with ddirecting in ifferent choral styles integral to the distinct performing traditions?
The book is aimed at both theorists studying questions of music and identity and choral practitioners who deal with these questions hands-on in their daily musical lives.
