Anna Crusis Women's Choir presents"Hungry for Justice"

Location: Pennsylvania, USA
Choir type: Community Choirs
Voicing: Women
PHILADELPHIA -- Anna Crusis Women's Choir, the country's longest running feminist chorus, takes on the issue of hunger for its fall concert. At a time when too many people in America don't have enough to eat, "Anna" is partnering with two major anti-hunger groups serving the Greater Philadelphia area for two landmark concerts. The choir will be raising awareness on behalf of Philabundance, the region's largest hunger relief organization, and MANNA, delivering nourishment to those battling life threatening illnesses. "This fall, our concert is all about food," says Artistic Director Miriam Davidson.  "What we eat, how we eat, who gets to eat and who doesn't; agribusiness, fast food marketing, the 'Eat Local' movement, the social aspects of food, food celebrations, multicultural food, cooking, and more."

With a repertoire that ranges from classic, contemporary and worldbeat women's choral music, to soulful folk ballads and rockin' pop tunes, Anna Crusis Women's Choir has been entertaining the Delaware Valley since 1975.  The choir, fifty-six singers strong -- plus one sign language interpreter for the deaf and hearing-impaired -- takes its name from the music term anacrusis, sometimes referred to as the "feminine" beat (or upbeat) before a downbeat.

The "Hungry For Justice" concerts will be held Saturday evening, December 7th, at 7:30pm, and Sunday afternoon, December 8th, at 4:00pm, at the Unitarian Society of Germantown, 6511 Lincoln Drive, Philadelphia.  For tickets or more information, go to www.AnnaCrusis.org.
