Spirituals Sing in Lenox MA

LENOX, MA. — The Cantilena Chamber Choir will present a Martin Luther King weekend Psalms and Spirituals open sing at Trinity Church on Sunday, January 19th, at 3p.m. Special guests include the MCLA Allegrettos (two time 1st place winners of the Lenox Caroling Festival) and the Taconic HS Choir.  Dr. King will be remembered in poems and speeches, but the focus of the program will be a spiritual sing along with the choirs. The choirs will also perform works by themselves by Alice Parker, Moses Hogan and arrangements of familiar spirituals such as Deep RiverRide up in the Chariot, and Wade in the Water. All words and music will be provided. Also on the program will be a personal recollection delivered by Gail Street who was present at Dr. King’s funeral.

Now in its 10th anniversary season, the award winning Cantilena Chamber Choir is the Berkshire region’s leading chamber choir. The MCLA Allegrettos provide a visually stimulating and entertaining performance to a variety of audiences. They began as a 10 person caroling group and now numbers about 50 performing a capella and gospel music. Taconic High School Honors Chorus and director Jessica Passetto performs concerts at school and community events such as Senior Center Activities, Nursing Homes, City Hall, Tree Lighting Ceremony, City Council Inaugurations and Third Thursday's.

The Cantilena Chamber Choir is under the artistic direction of Andrea Goodman who is also the Director of the Northern Berkshire Chorale in Williamstown and the Saratoga Choral Festival, an annual summer concert series for chorus and orchestra in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
