Choral piece with bass solo

Hi Everyone!
I'm looking for choral pieces that have bass solo. I have a WONDERFUL new singer who is a REAL basso profundo. I would like to feature him with the choir (satb). He has given me tons of solo things. Just need some really great choral pieces. Thanks so much for your help

Hi Orville -
One of my favorites has always been the DeCormier "Raise a Ruckus" with the soloist dropping the solo an octave - tons of fun.
Best wishes,
Mike

Thou Art The King of Glory - Bass solo, Trumpet. Organ and Chorus    G.F. Handel
It is the solo, then the choral response, but is a great piece in the edition I have.  Published by St. James Music Press, 2002 in The Sewanee Composer's Project, Vol. 9  ( arr. editors).

If you might also be dividing your choir for TTBB piece or two, consider my "All Creatures of our God and King" for TTBB, piano, basso profundo -- written for bass Phil Ens.  I'd be glad to send a perusal copy and sound file. There's also a score and sound sample on my web page under the "compositions" tab (dig down to the Male Choir section).

Laudate Coeli Dominum by Johann Hasse (contemporary of CPE Bach)  --  either keyboard accomp. or orchestra.  All materials are readily available and reasonably priced from JW Pepper or Sheet Music Plus.

Don't suppose you're interested in looking into Russian folk or sacred music. (?)  There's much solo material for basso profundo and chorus there.  But, then there's the language challenge...and finding scores with transliterated lyrics is not easy.  I particularly love "Legend of the Twelve Brigands."  A bit impractical...but that's where the basso profundo soloist is commonly found in abundance.

Purcell has tons of music for bass and choir. Look it up.

And there's much more
