Under the direction of founder Edward Kingins, The Fort Street Chorale has grown from a handful of volunteers in 1971 to a musically proficient ensemble of some 80 voices. The group is composed of non-auditioned volunteers representing a variety of musical and cultural backgrounds from southeastern Michigan and Canada, creating what has come to be know as "The Miracle on Fort Street" with its popular annual holiday performances of Handel's well loved Christmas Messiah.
Each spring the chorale presents a formal concert featuring a different oratorio. Fort Street Chorale is associated with Fort Street Presbyterian Church, 631 W. Fort Street, an historic downtown Detroit church. Phone: 313-961-4533. www.fortstreet.org
