Brooklyn UU Church seeking Tenor and Bass soloist/section-leaders
Date: July 23, 2014
Location: Brooklyn, New York, New York, USA
First Unitarian Congregational Society of Brooklyn, NY (First U) is seeking experienced Tenor and Bass soloists/section-leaders. There are two openings (1 tenor, 1 bass) to complete the professional quartet that enhances the adult volunteer choir.
Each of our four professional singers regularly perform solo selections in the worship service, (once a month or so) in addition to leading their section of the choir every week. The time commitment is three hours every Sunday morning from 9 AM to 12 PM. Compensation is $100 per call, with no regular week-day rehearsal. Choir rehearsal begins at 9 AM, and the (1) service begins at 11 AM. This is a weekly commitment from the beginning of September to the beginning of June. There are some additional week-night rehearsals (compensated at $25 per hour) leading up to special services such as Christmas Eve, Palm Sunday, and Easter. Section leaders must be able to commit to these holiday services as well.
First U has a tradition of quality classical choral and vocal music, and seeks section-leaders who can uphold this tradition while also helping the music program embody the diversity of our congregation and Brooklyn itself. Singers who are versatile and comfortable in other genres (in addition to their classical experience) are encouraged to apply. Additionally, please mention any proficiency or comfortability on other musical instruments as well.
Audition includes two contrasting solos of your choice, an audition excerpt, and sight-singing.
