Choir Director - Pianist

Location: Flourtown, Pennsylvania, USA
First Presbyterian Church in Flourtown, PA is seeking a dynamic and accomplished choir director and pianist to prepare the adult choir and accompany Sunday worship starting in September, 2014.  We seek a creative and collaborative individual with strong interpersonal skills who can work with a volunteer choir of varied musical talents and interests.
 
We are a congregation of approximately 250 members, with 15-20 in the choir on a regular basis.  We have a large music library and an annual music budget.
 
Requirements:  Music degree and relevant experience are required.  Must be proficient on piano (or organ) while directing the choir, able to select music appropriate to the liturgical season and have a record of positive collaboration with staff and congregation members.  The selected candidate will be comfortable with a range of musical styles that will enhance the worship experience.
 
Reports to:   The Pastor and works closely with the Worship and Music Committee
 
Responsibilities: (Average 10-12 hours/week)
  • Serve as overall coordinator of the music program
  • Selection, preparation for and presentation of the prelude, postlude, communion music (monthly), as well as hymns and choral anthem for Sunday services.
  • Weekly Thursday night choir rehearsals and warm up on Sunday morning September through June
  • Prepare the choir and present a larger work (Cantata) during the Christmas and Easter seasons
  • Create an atmosphere that encourages choir membership and retention
  • Other responsibilities and opportunities as agreed upon with the Pastor and Worship Committee
 
Salary:  Compensation in keeping with experience and comparable Philadelphia area part-time Music Directors
