Director of Music Ministries

Location: Memphis, Tennessee, USA
POSITION STATUS:  30 hours/wk

POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Music Ministries will be part of a ministerial team to plan worship experiences for the church and direct or supervise all areas of the music ministry program. the Director of Music Ministries will be committed to integrating music and the arts into worship and will possess strong collaborative skills and enthusiasm for being part of a worship team.


Chancel Choir        
-Select Music for Sunday worship and special programs (Christmas/Easter, Holy Week, etc) using a varied repertoire of musical selections
-Teach and rehearse music with the choir
-Recruit and nurture choir members musically and spiritually

Senior Adult Choir
-Select music appropriate for the group
-Teach and rehearse music with the choir
-Recruit and nurture choir members musically and spiritually
-Schedule regular performances on and off the church campus

Children’s Choirs
-Direct the Choristers (grades 1-5): select curriculum and music, plan and direct rehearsals, special events (Christmas Program and programs and schedule regular Sunday worship participation.
-Recruit directors for the Cherubs (age 3 -Kindergarten) and provide music and curriculum -schedule regular Sunday worship participation.

Wesley Bells
-Select music for performance in worship
-Teach and rehearse music
-Recruit and nurture members musically and spiritually
-Plan and lead the choir in special events and concerts.

Congregational Music
-Select congregational music for all worships in cooperation with the ministers
-Lead congregational singing at all worships of the church, including both Sunday worship, special seasonal worships and funerals held at the church.
-Educate the congregation in areas of worship and music
-Arrange special music, when possible for worship services

Miscellaneous Duties
-Lead music for Vacation Bible School in cooperation with Director of Children’s Ministries
-Coordinate music opportunities for youth and young adults in cooperation with Director of Youth and Young Adults
-Direct/produce various worship/drama presentations in cooperation with other staff members
-Network and and involve the community of Memphis with our music program
-Other duties may be required

-Oversee and supervise paid musical staff
-Prepare and supervise the music budget and special accounts related to the music ministry
-Administrate the youth music scholarship program
-Order music for all of the ensembles and manage the music library
-Oversee the maintenance of all musical instruments and equipment
-Actively participate in the Worship Planning Team
-Attend meetings of the Church Council, Program Ministry Team, and Staff meetings

Job Skills/Requirements
-Degree in Music with emphasis in choral conducting, Master’s Preferred
-Experience in a church setting with volunteer choirs
-Extensive knowledge of sacred vocal and choral literature and hymnody
-Ability to communicate the Christian faith though a variety of musical styles
-Well organized  administrator with excellent communications skills
-Warm/engaging personality with the ability to work successfully with all age groups and to engage as a member of staff team

Reporting Line and Compliance
-Reports to the Lead Pastor
-Will practice diligence in adhering to St. Luke’s Safe Sanctuary Policy at all times.
