I'm looking for a curriculum of some sort that starts at the beginning teaching high school aged kids how to read music using solfege. My kiddos know the scales, but they don't know how to apply the concept of tonality to their music-reading/sight-singing. Shoutout to my Kodaly peeps in the house! ... See MoreSee Less

William ZinnCreate your own from your literature. They know solfege. Place movable "do" at given tonic. Spell scale degrees in parallel with actual pitch names. (i.e. do=C, therefore sol=G) la minor teaches relative keys and simplifies reading.

Bonnie Irwin AtkinsonI just purchased a 12 month subscription to a really fantastic site for $23.51 US. (It's $30 AUD). It has a pretty cool demo so you get an idea of what it's like. You can click and see the solfege above the notes, or just the first note, or note names, or nothing. Comes with a built in optional metronome and/or piano playing the tones. It's going to be awesome on the big screen in my classroom! Can't wait to use from 3rd grade all the way to High School Chorus!!!

Kenny Wisercreative Sightsinging by Bowyer is a really great text book. You can purchase it from Santa Barbara . Digital license for your school can be purchased in place of physical copies of the book. I love it!
