CJ Replay: If You Can Speak, You Can Sing

July 25, 2016 -

In just under a month, ACDA is proud to be part of hosting America Cantat 8 in Nassau, Bahamas, the first time this exciting festival

There is a possibility I will be teaching high school choir starting September. I've never taught High School. It's in a private Christian school who follows the Classical Conversations philosophy and curriculum. I've chosen to do 1/3 classical, 1/3 hymns, 1/3 a cappella hymn/anthem (allowing modern songs composed up to 2005). The group is excellent at harmonizing as long as I record each part individually and send them home with the cd to practice. So that's where we stand - I'd love and appreciate any tips on managing a high school choir, specific warm ups used at this level, what the students should be responsible for on their own, grading rubrics for this age. It's an elective and typically has about 12-15 kids total. Thank you! ... See MoreSee Less

Sarah MaloneI covet this warm up book and know that it has been used for middle and high school, college, and adult choirs. It provides lots of examples that address specific problems you may encounter. Some are even fun to do (depending on how choir nerd you are). I would also find some sight singing sheets to help them build music skills.
