August 22, 2016 -

The December 2015 issue of Choral Journal featured an interesting conversation with top conductors and singers in the United States. The panel included four conductors—Simon

To anybody: I teach high school chorus (beginning and advanced singers in the same class) and I need piece recommendations that are 3 part mix or SAB. I'm looking for your tried and true great pieces that are not too challenging for my beginners but are still fun for my more advanced singers. Any suggestions would be SOOOO appreciated! Thanks in advance! ... See MoreSee Less

Karen MerkleyTuimbe and O Sifuni Mungu are always hits with my kiddos. Perfectly accessible for your newbies, but not exactly easy if you emphasize technique (not to mention using another language). Plus, for your really advanced singers, you could have them learn the percussion parts.

Chris FowlerThere is a little known piece by Buryl Red called "The Rain of Peace" that I used early in my career that worked well with SAB groups. It's probably out of print, but you might be able to contact the publisher for reprinted copies.

Representing their second Classical Movements tour, the girls of Young Adelaide Voices treble choir completed a very successful tour of Munich, Salzburg, Vienna, and Bratislava. With festival performances in Salzburg, including in the legendary Groβer Saal of the Mozarteum, and in Bratislava, where in addition to multiple performances the choir came home with three gold medals, the girls also enjoyed impromptu pop-up performances in each city, as a chance to hone their repertoire and delight the locals and tourists who happened upon them. Other high points include a post-Mass performance in Munich’s famous Frauenkirche, a concert in the atrium of Vienna’s high-tech Haus der Muisk, and a custom tour of the salt mines of Hallstatt outside of Salzburg.
