In Memoriam Einojuhani Rautavaara

August 31, 2016 -

Going Beyond Words w/ Stan Schmidt Show 2242 – In Memoriam Einojuhani Rautavaara This week on ACDA Radio, host Stan Schmidt invites you to a special

Hello! I hope there are some choral geniuses out there who can help me:
What are your favorite a cappella arrangements of popular music? How about your favorite body percussion/song combinations? I teach an after school "a cappella" choir for upper elementary and middle school - we do mostly unaccompanied music and we are always looking for fun ways to arrange pop tunes in a way that is ostinato based so its accessible and fun for the kids to learn. I like to poach ideas from already arranged a cappella tunes and last year I had a lot of success singing Bring me Little Water Sylvie in unison with body percussion. 2 to 3 parts are ideal, four parts if it is simple. Any and all ideas are welcome!

The ACDA Honor Choir made up of the top high school singers from all across the U.S. came together in Washington, D.C. for three days of rehearsals, sightseeing, and a sold-out concert in Old Town Alexandria before departing on a concert tour of Prague, Salzburg, and Vienna. All of the concert venues were at full capacity and people were turned away at both the kick-off concert in Alexandria and at the first concert in Prague! Other highlights include a wonderful exchange with a school just outside of Salzburg, impromptu singing at various sights along the Sound of Music Tour, and a workshop and concert with Insingizi, a trio from Zimbabwe based in Vienna. Post-tour communication with ACDA include reports of strong friendships forged during the tour and plans for choir members to reconnect at upcoming regional conferences.
