Harvard Pro Musica seeks to appoint a Conducting Intern for the 2016-2017 season. The Intern will ideally be a current music student at a college or university in the Greater Boston community. As a community choir, HPM has a longstanding reputation of encouraging the growth of young musicians and developing community as well as performing classical music in beautiful locations. The Conducting Intern will work directly with the Resident Conductor regarding all musical decisions.
Responsibilities:
Attend all rehearsals and concerts. Rehearsals are held at Harvard Unitarian Universalist Church in Harvard, MA every Tuesday from 7:30-9:30pm September through May and concerts are typically held in December and May.
Section leader in his or her choral section.
Run sectional rehearsals
Lead rehearsals in the case of Resident Conductor’s absence
Arrive at least 15 minutes prior to all rehearsals and performance call times
The Conducting Intern will notify the Resident Conductor of any absences in advance if possible.
Must have own transportation to rehearsals and performances.
The Conducting Intern reports directly Resident Conductor Carey Shunskis.
Qualifications:
Working towards a Bachelors degree in Music, performance or education preferred
Experience in a choral setting
Experience leading choral rehearsals
Conducting experience preferred
Strong musicianship skills including music reading and vocal technique
Excellent people skills and willingness to collaborate with musicians and non-musicians
