Ring in the season with Schola Cantorum as they sing carols and lullabies, featuring virtuoso harp soloist Dan Levitan, in their holiday concert, “Christmas Angels,” on Sunday, December 18th at 3:00 p.m. at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts.
The program features the seventy members of the choir singing seasonal favorites like “Christmas Bells” as well as lesser known carols; interludes with the harp; and a performance of Conrad Susa’s “Carols and Lullabies: Christmas in the Southwest.” The festivities culminate in a traditional audience sing-along.
The ten carols that make up Conrad Susa’s piece hail from Spain, Puerto Rico, Catalonia and France. The Latin flavor is enhanced with guitar, marimba and harp performed by Scott Sorkin, Ward Spangler and Dan Levitan, respectively. Music Director Gregory Wait describes the work as “charming, melodic, and beautiful.”
Dan Levitan is the Principal Harpist for Symphony Silicon Valley, Marin Symphony, and Santa Rosa Symphony, and is highly sought-after as a freelance player all around the Bay Area. Rarely able to perform with a choral group this large, he says, “The energy you get from seventy voices magnifies the joy and music coming from the choir.”
Tickets are $30 general admission, $20 for students, and $16 for children 12 and under. Tickets may be purchased at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts Ticket Office at 500 Castro Street, by phone at 650-903-6000, or online at www.MVCPA.com.
