The Oratorio Society of Virginia celebrates 50 years with Handel’s Christmas Messiah in two festive concerts.
Join us for The Oratorio Society of Virginia’s annual Christmas at the Paramount! This beloved Charlottesville tradition takes place on Saturday, December 17, 2016 with both a matinee (2:30 pm) and evening concert (7:30 pm). The traditional Christmas at the Paramount concerts begin a two-year celebration of the ensemble’s 50 years of performing choral masterworks for the greater Charlottesville community. The group is one of the oldest arts organizations in the area and the longest-running local community chorus.
Accompanied by chamber orchestra and four guest soloists, the Oratorio Society will perform the Christmas portion (Part 1) and “Hallelujah” chorus from Handel’s “Messiah.” The concerts will also include holiday selections from around the world, an opportunity for the audience to join the Oratorio Society in a favorite carol, and a preview of Morten Lauridsen’s “Lux Aeterna,” which the Oratorio Society invites the community to join them in singing at their annual Together in Song March 18, 2017. For the fourth consecutive year, the Oratorio Society invites some of the area’s best youth voices to the Paramount stage: the Burley Middle School Bearettes Young Women’s Chorus will perform at 2:30 pm and the Waynesboro High School Concert Choir will perform during the 7:30 pm concert.
We hope to see you for what is sure to be a delightful family experience which will linger in your memories for years to come. For tickets, visit or call the Paramount Box Office, 434-979-1333, or theparamount.net.
