On Saturday, March 25th First Congregational Church of Granby will host its third annual Sacred Choral Music Festival. We are excited to announce that we will be welcoming Dr. Steven Grives as this year’s guest conductor. Dr. Grives has served on the faculties of South Dakota State University, DePaul University, Loras College, and most recently the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Dr. Grives and his choirs have performed numerous national and international tours and have performed at clinics and conferences across the United States.
The First Church Sacred Choral Music Festival is a part of the annual Barbara Crouse Memorial Concert Series. This concert series was founded to honor the memory of Mrs. Crouse, a longtime Granby resident and music educator. Because of the Crouse’s generous gift, participation for individual singers and full choirs in the choral festival is entirely free! We are building off of last year’s successful festival, which was a celebration of Negro Spirituals and played to a full and enthusiastic audience!
The theme for this year’s festival is French Sacred Music and will feature works by many of the French master composers, culminating in a performance of Fauré’s beloved Requiem with soloists soprano Dr. Christi McLain and baritone Michael McAvoy. The festival consists of rehearsals and workshops with Dr. Grives beginning in the morning and running throughout the day, culminating with a performance that evening.
The festival will take place from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of First Church, with a concert the same evening at 7:00 p.m. that is free and open to the public. As previously mentioned, participation in the Sacred Choral Music Festival is entirely free, including a free lunch during the day for all participants. All singers will be provided with rehearsal tracks for their vocal part as well as digital music that they may freely print. Singers of all ages and skill levels are welcome.
Please consider passing this information included in the attached flyer along to all singers in your program whom you feel may be interested. You are also welcome to sign up a full choir if you wish to participate as an ensemble!
