The Crossing returns to Big Sky, Montana in July, but with a twist; we’re adding a conductors’ week! Two weeks in Montana living with new music in the beauty and air of the Montana mountains.
Week 1: Gavin Bryars in residence with Composing and Singing Fellows, July 16-23
This week features world-renowned British composer Gavin Bryars in an immersive program that has already proved to be both popular and enormously successful. Twelve Singing Fellows will join twelve members of The Crossing to explore contemporary music for choirs and the new works written for the Initiative by Five Composing Fellows, who will study with Gavin and workshop their works with The Crossing and Donald Nally. It all leads to a performance with the premieres of those works, music of Gavin, and additional recent works.
Week 2: Donald Nally mentors eight Conducting Fellows, with Singing Fellows, July 23-30
In this week, we’ll bring eight Conducting Fellows together to conduct, sing, and live with the music of The Crossing, exploring music of the 20th and 21st centuries. A unique opportunity to study conducting gesture, content, and musical thought with Donald Nally and singers of this 2017 Grammy-nominated ensemble.
“An absolutely INCREDIBLE week. I’ll never forget it.”
– 2016 Singing Fellow
