On the banks of Paradise (Pond, that is), three action-packed days to restore and inspire. A Summer Conference noted for its friendly, informal atmosphere, MassACDA welcomes choral musicians from New England and beyond. The 2016 Conference opens Sunday evening with a traditional Episcopal Evensong in the resonant acoustics of Mount Holyoke College’s neo-gothic Chapel in nearby South Hadley. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (morning only) feature presentations by the clinicians–outreach to urban youth (Josephine Lee, Chicago Children’s Choir), choral kinesthetics, creative programming (Dr. John Dickson, LSU)–and interest sessions led by distinguished ACDA members on provocative, practical, wide-ranging topics such as “Vocal health for choral teachers,” “Put away that sheet music!,” “The Middle School Singer: A horse of a different color,” and “Creating an LGBTQ-friendly Choir.” A Conference Chorus (participation optional) will rehearse and perform Corigliano’s Fern Hill under the baton Dr. Dickson. Also several reading sessions for SA/youth and advanced SATB, and large packets of recommended repertoire, plus opportunities for small group singing, socializing and networking. Free PDPs and affordable grad credit through UMassAmherst. Early Bird registration closes June 3. More information and registration online: www.massacda.org.
