Cantari Voices is pleased announce their upcoming concert, Music by Dan Locklair, which will be held on Saturday, March 04, 2017 at Chapel of the Cross, 304 E. Franklin Street, Chapel Hill, NC.
The concert features two works by North Carolina’s highly acclaimed composer Dan Locklair – A DuBose Heyward Triptych portraying the city of Charleston, SC, with its coastal beauty and Civil War history, and Requiem, a lovely, serene setting accompanied by organist Matthew Brown.

Dan Locklair is Composer-in-Residence and Professor of Music at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. His compositional catalog, influenced by a wide variety of traditions, includes internationally performed symphonic works, a ballet, an opera, and numerous solo, chamber, vocal, organ and choral compositions. His principal publisher is Subito Music. CDs of his music have been released by Naxos, Albany, Koch International Classics, Priory, Raven, ARSIS, Gothic, Loft and other labels. Organist Matthew Brown has performed throughout the United States and abroad, playing concerts in remarkable spaces such as Westminster Abbey and St. Paul’s Cathedral in London and St. Thomas Church in New York City. A graduate of the North Carolina School of the Arts and the Eastman School of Music, he is known for his extraordinarily expressive playing. Mr. Brown is the Director of Music at First United Methodist Church in Salisbury, N.C.
Cantari, Voices’ select vocal ensemble, made its choral debut in the 2006-07 season. Singing mostly a cappella music, Cantari’s vocal selections are chosen from medieval to modern repertoire, and include sacred and secular, serious and humorous numbers.
VOICES is one of the Triangle’s oldest and most distinguished choral groups with a rich history spanning more than three decades. Under the direction of Dr. Sue Klausmeyer since 2000, VOICES is known for innovative programming and choral excellence. The chorus’ mission is continuously to foster and share the art and joy of choral music and to enrich the Triangle community through excellent performances of music from diverse cultural and historical periods.
