This summer is your chance to sing great classical works accompanied by a chamber orchestra. Schola Cantorum invites anyone who wishes, to participate in singing Bach’s “Magnificat” and Mozart’s “Requiem” on July 18, accompanied by the New Millennium Chamber Orchestra. This is the second in a series of six Sings offered by the choral group.
Vance George, Conductor Emeritus of the San Francisco Symphony Chorus, is conducting the July 18 Summer Sing. “‘Magnificat’ is quintessential Bach,” he says, “but unusual in that the movements are very short, and very bright and happy. With lots of running sixteenth notes, it’s an ebullient piece.”
He describes Mozart’s “Requiem” as iconic and famous because of the movie “Amadeus.” “It’s somber, deep, and touching, with both quiet and explosive moments. A great piece of music, and one that is great fun to sing.”
For the first time, a Schola Cantorum Sing will feature a collaboration with The New Millennium Chamber Orchestra, co-founded by Music Director James Richard Frieman.
The Sing will be held at the Los Altos United Methodist Church on July 18 at 7:30 p.m. Cost: $13; ages 25 and under free with student ID. Tickets available at the door or online at www.ScholaCantorum.org, or call 650-254-1700.
