Comment: Re: Pre-recorded accompaniment
Sorry, that's Micah. Love that speech to text.
Comment: Re: Pre-recorded accompaniment
Mika, thank you for the advice and will reconsider pricing when I get to a further step in this process. You're right on the money about my target base, too. What I'm selling is my experience, and ability to convert sheet music to rehearsal files In a very short time. To date, my biggest obstacl...
Comment: Re: Pre-recorded accompaniment
I'm currently in the process of researching the legalities of starting my own rehearsal file business. I make midi and MP3 rehearsal files for my students and for our state's Allstate festival and have decades experience in the process. I can usually have a full 3 1/2 minutes song edited, prepare...
Comment: Re: Contemporary Choral Music
Karyn, do check out Vijay's " Johnny Said No". I've used it for concerts and festival and it's great fun! Opportunity for a bit of acting, too. i have to say I've done quite a few of his pieces and they're always top notch.
Comment: Re: pc music software help
You are talking about MIDI files, aren't you? That's what I'm assuming. Another great free program is MuseScore.org. Creates pretty good sheet music, too. Support's quick and friendly. I have my students use it and now that it's available on iPad I'll use it at school, too.
Comment: Re: Are others having problems connecting to ChoralNet?
I've had the same problem for the same period. I have to refresh for the site to load and that doesn't always work. Any ideas? thanks
Comment: Re: Rehearsal CDs
Do you need to convert to CD? MP3 players, flash drives and school website negated my need to using them years ago. I've been creating MIDI files for twenty years for my students to rehearse at home (school website), to use as an occassional class accompanist, and now do it for other schools, the-...
Comment: Re: breathing and relaxation
I have the kids in my younger choirs lie down flat on the floor all over the choir room and relax for a minute or two. I then tell them that when they were babies they always breathed correctly, but through stress, tension and frenetic lifestyles, bad "high" breathing developed. I have them put th...
Comment: Re: sounds of nature...
Take a look at "Africa", arr. Emerson at Pepper, then go to youtube and watch Perpetuum Jazzille perform it. Our little choir did it a couple springs ago and folks are still talking about it. We had basic, yet dramatic lighting to emmulate lightning and a bass drum backstage to accentuate the thun...
Comment: Re: What to purchase for communication with sound technician during performance?
Our school had that problem for years. Kids running outside the building, around front, in through the house and up to the booth. Not efficient, professional or pretty. I started using walkie-talkies w/headsets from the pit to run the show and it worked pretty well. You have to be sure the channel...
Comment: Re: Legal implications for recording/selling rehearsal mp3s
David, Thanks for posting the OneLicense address. Seems like a slick way to take care of multiple fees for producing rehearsal materials. Problem is cost. A choir of fifty kids singing four songs would cost $150 to produce rehearsal materials. Add $80 for each piece of new music (which cost less...
Comment: Re: Legal implications for recording/selling rehearsal mp3s
thanks for the message, Amy. I'm also concerned about environmental conservation.  I don't usually make CDs for my students unless they have no internet access at home. It's the State Festival and a portion of high school directors that aren't  willing to download and create their own CDs (or pu...
Comment: Re: Legal implications for recording/selling rehearsal mp3s
I'm not sure that I want to be the test case, unless I was being supported (financially and publicly) by a professional music education group. As you know, many festivals make rehearsal CDs made from midi files. I and many other directors have websites where students can access midi files ...
Choir: North Pole High School Choirs (North Pole, Alaska, USA)
The North Pole High School Choral Department boasts nearly 160 singers in five ensembles this year including Mixed, Contemporary (Glee Club), Treble, Concert and Jazz Choirs. The choirs perform four regular concerts each school year and are actively involved in the community performing dozens of ...
Forum message: Legal implications for recording/selling rehearsal mp3s
I have over 500 midi/mp3 files of all kinds of choral music in all voices. I've been creating them for my choirs for years and make the rehearsal files for the Alaska All State Festival as well. I love doing it and want to pursue it as a primary income. I'm still not clear as to the legal issues ...
