Jane, hi I have not heard of a choir being sued, but my small 24 member adult comm. choir carries 2 Million $ liability. I am now researaching another provider for this coming year. I have never had a suit in 40 years.   I agree about price increase being ridiculous. Carolyn Eynon

Comment: Re: Community Choir questions
Hi Chris, All the above replies are worthwhile and proven over years of experience that each choir and each board of directors has its own style of survival. Comment: Re: NEVER Make Them Cry
As a choral director for 40 years, there have been several moments in concerts where I fought back my tears, as the musical moment grabbed me. I do emphasize emotional content and we discuss mental imagery, mood, point of text, immersion in the harmonic language, etc to make each song meaningful...

Comment: Re: Question for Directors Who've Attended Choral Conference Reading Sessions
I have been directing for 40 years. And probably I use 40% of the reading material for high school. and community dhoirs. THe % has gone up since I began, but it depends on which sessions I select. Most valuable are: in my opinion.... ethnic, vocal jazz, and community. I always attend ttbb and...
Comment: Re: Illustrated Guide to a Ph.D.
I agree. THERE WAS NOTHING to outline ANYTHING in 1980 at Un of  Michigan. I was the first female in the DMA program. FINISHED all my course work, and then had a bump in the road. None of my choral directors had DMA or PHD but of course, years of experience. Then DMA were rather a new degree and ...

Comment: Re: "An Open Letter to Performers of New Music" from Dan Visconti
I strongly incorporate on EACH concert a new work. Either by an Arizonan composer or living composer....from America.  We enjoy new music and exciting fresh harmonies, with eccentric rhythms but always with melody that is emotionally driven. Check out our website if you want to send me your c...
Comment: Re: Audience awareness

There are times when my singers have been in a zone, when nothing could cut the silence and listening intensity by the audience .... it truly can be magical and indescribable.  On the other hand, when the singers are insecure or nervou...
Comment: Re: How Much is Music Worth?
I agree wholeheartedly, I too, get chills when listening to the "grandpa" of all instruments. THere is nothing more stirring than a Bach toccata and fugue when played on a pipe organ like the Dobson. Congrats and yes, it is a blessing.  May we never forget the power of a pipe organ.
