John Leavitt's "Easter" is a pretty impressive piece for choir and brass, and not easy. It may be out of print though. One that is in print is Jeremy Bankson's (I believe that is the last name) setting of This Joyous Eastertide, for choir, brass and organ, published by Morningstar.

Bruckner Mass in e is a possibility - big piece, but maybe not necessary to do the whole piece.

I really like Persichetti's "Evergreen"...not an easy vocal line, but it's unison with an ostinato accompaniment. I highly recommend it.

We always did the Lutkin Lord Bless You in high school. Take a look at Chet Alwes' short but beautiful setting of the Irish Blessing.

Also, the Barrie Cabena Lord, Make Me an Insturment of thy Peace is gorgeous, if fairly difficult.

The Mendelssohn Verleih uns Frieden is lovely, if maybe a little long for a Sunday anthem. Could be done in English if need be.

Good question. In planning for my church choir and other ensembles I have had responsibility for, I have several simultaneous (and hopefully not opposing) modus operandi going. With my church choir, I know more or less who will be available to sing (or so I think!) and what the part balance w... |

I direct a 45-voice church choir that does a wide range of music, but mostly what would be considered traditional fare. I am finishing my second year at the church, so the transition to a new director is well underway. As with many mainline churches, our median choir member age is quite high ... |

I have encountered this issue as well. I have choirs of one sort or another at all 3 traditional services on Sunday. Once in a great while they will have a Sunday off, or not sing at all services. They also sing some responses/calls during the service. If they are not singing an anthem, I ... |

It seems to me there are at least 2 schools of thought on this. I know some folks who do their routine of warm-ups that they have developed and gleaned from their own experience without fail at every rehearsal. Others focus on a technical/vocal challenge they intend to focus on and make that t... |

Thanks for those of you who have taken the time to respond, at length, in some cases. I can certainly see both sides of the textual coin, so to speak. And, to clarify, I have spent some 15 years in church positions, but this is only my second year at this current one, which can make a differen... |

Of course, the bottom line is that I have to do what I am told to do, but it will not be without some strong counterarguments on my part. Ultimately it is the choice of those of those to whom I am responsible, as it is mine to decide whether or not that is a stipulation I can live with and look... |

I have about 6 Sundays worth of music (after our 45 or so voice church choir is off) in the vein of church renewal, rededication, and "revival" to search out. Probably more upbeat, though not necessarily contemporary Christian, rep seems to be what the senior pastor is looking for. I would wel... |

| Comment: Re: Lord's Prayer choral setting | Daniel Fry | February 17, 2010 |

| Look at Chester Alwes' arrangement, with a lovely accompaniment part. Last stanza is reminiscent of the Christiansen but a little more accessbile for modest ensembles. Highly recommended - I think Roger Dean is the publisher. |
