Can anyone point me to any listservs that are specifically geared to K-12 choral music educators? I know about the Music Researchers’ Email Directory. I’m wondering, though, if there are places other than ChoralNet (wonderful as it is) specifically devoted to the study, teaching, and improvement of school-level choral methods.
As Stephen observes, you must first be a member of MENC to join the forums. Once you’re a dues-paying member, though, you can register for the forums, which have a number of different useful areas: Advocacy, Band, Chorus, Future Teachers, General Music, Higher Ed/Admin/Research, Jazz, and Orchestra.
I will add, in addition to the MENC forum, ChoralNet is working on a new social networking feature – ChoralNet communities – that will allow registered ChoralNet users to create their own groups of musicians with similar interests. This will likely not be available until the fall of 2010. But when it is operable, one will be able to create a community that is dedicated to a specific topic or area.
There is also the “Music Teachers Chatboard” which is part of teachers.net. Anybody can post, and do so anonymously if they choose. It’s geared toward K-12 Music educators, many of whom happen to be choir directors as well. Here it is: http://teachers.net/mentors/music/
By the way, I have appreciated your kind words about my book, and wished that I could have attended your session in Tucson. How did it go? (Feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you’d rather not discuss it here.)
