Voice lessons may be taken away from my choral students next year. I teach 3 choirs during the school day and have 3 periods for voice lessons.
Are there other 4A schools, with one director, teaching lessons along with core choirs during the school day? Taking lessons away, means my class load
at the high school would become part-time. Which means all the co-curricular activities such as All State audition, solo & ensemble contest, regular voice checks and college audition preparation would be pushed to the way side. I’ve worked so hard building these up. We have recorded numbers of particpants. Yet, the school is considering to cut choir. Not band or orchestra.
I would appreciate any words of wisdom any of you have. I don’t want my students to lose out on opportunities.
You have been very fortunate. I have six choral ensembles, one guitar class and one piano class. There is NO way my district would ever allot a period for voice lessons. That is up to individuals to do on their own. All college preparation, ACDA honor choir preparation, solo ensemble songs etc. are ALL done after school or at lunch. We have to have 35-1 in all of our classes or they are cancelled. Again, count your blessings and good luck fighting this one.
