Andrea Ramsey on Her Newly Commissioned Work, “But a Flint Holds Fire” in Support of the Flint Water Crisis

September 26, 2016 -

I was recently introduced to an article on the Michigan ACDA website (editor, Jed Scott). It was an interview with composer Andrea Ramsey about her recently commissioned work, “But a Flint Holds Fire.” The piece was composed for a Chorus America consortium project and is part of an effort to raise awareness

Another quick repertoire poll.... I'm looking for a great setting of the Te Deum - *under 6 minutes* (preferably anthem length) with piano or organ, up to moderately difficult for a capable SATB+ church choir. Excellent soloists, if that matters. Thanks! ... See MoreSee Less

Jennifer Benton ScogginI'm fond of the Rutter Te Deum--it's a bit over seven minutes.

Kenny WiserDvorak Te Deum is great, though it does require a pretty good soprano soloist.

Representing their second Classical Movements tour, the girls of Young Adelaide Voices treble choir completed a very successful tour of Munich, Salzburg, Vienna, and Bratislava. With festival performances in Salzburg, including in the legendary Groβer Saal of the Mozarteum, and in Bratislava, where in addition to multiple performances the choir came home with three gold medals, the girls also enjoyed impromptu pop-up performances in each city, as a chance to hone their repertoire and delight the locals and tourists who happened upon them. Other high points include a post-Mass performance in Munich’s famous Frauenkirche, a concert in the atrium of Vienna’s high-tech Haus der Muisk, and a custom tour of the salt mines of Hallstatt outside of Salzburg.
