Two Grammy Nominations For Choralist Member Steve Barnett
Date: December 5, 2003
The 46th Annual Grammy Awards nominations were announced yesterday.
I'm very proud to announce, as an active member of Choralist, that two of my
recent recording productions have been nominated. First of all, Twin
Cities'-based choral treasure Dale Warland and the Dale Warland Singers have been
nominated in the "Best Choral Performance" Category for the recording of Dominick
Argento's "Walden Pond". This CD was produced and recorded by the Twin
Cities-based production team of Producer (and Choralist member) Steve Barnett and
recording engineer Preston Smith. I have been the recording producer for the Dale
Warland Singers for 10 years and have known Dale for most of my life. I am
personally thrilled for Dale and the Singers that this nomination has been added
to the many honors he has garnered internationally over the years. They are
the only U.S.-based chorus to be included in the nominations for this category.
And on a more personal level, composer Dominick Argento was my orchestration
and composition teacher at the University of Minnesota way too many years ago,
but his influence (and friendship) remains with me still. I am so pleased
that he is being honored again, not only in this category, but also for his
composition "Casa Guidi" which is nominated in two other categories.
In addition, San Francisco-based Chanticleer is again back in the nominations
after our successful two-time Grammy triumph in New York City last year. This
year we are nominated in the Best Classical Crossover Category for their
wonderful and eclectic "Our American Journey" CD, for which Producer Steve Barnett
and Engineer Preston Smith were again the production team. Music Director
Joseph Jennings and his unparalled work with Chanticleer over the years is again
being honored. I have been Chanticleer's recording producer for over 16 years.
Happy Holidays to all!
And best wishes,
Barnett Music Productions
