Subject: Re: Jerusalem Repertoire

Dear choralisters,

Here I come back with Musica database to answer this interesting request.
Questioning Musica on Jerusalem gave me 125 answers.

I removed, as a first approach, all titles that undoubtedly are not directly
related to the city, but kept some of them anyway which might be interesting
for the anniversary celebration and/or because I did not want to loose too
much time to think about, leaving that job to you.

Therefore, the following list has 77 answers. Some of them of folksongs, but
most refer to the old testament.

It is the first time that I send you a list coming out of the new version 4
of Musica. You will immediately see the difference, as this version uses the
new automatic multilingual translation features of the software Infomusic 4,
and the relational features to specialised files as composers, authors of
text or publishers; thus this list is quite entirely in English, although a
lot of the data shown in english have been introduced into Musica in french
or in german. Some exceptions not yet activated such as instruments,
musicological sources et source of text. If one of you wants the same list
in french or in german, just ask (spanish is almost ready and dutch is
underway).

As this list is a first run, I might have missed some display problems when
I read it for checking. I thank you to mention to me all eventual such
problems, in order to correct them for future postings.

Regards
Jean Sturm

Hi everyone.  That's an amazing list - very impressive!  I would like to add just one more piece to it.   Many are familiar with the English composer Parry's setting of 'Jerusalem', the poem by William Blake.  It is sung at The Last Night of the Proms and was the opening tune in this summer's Olympic Games opening ceremony.   I have arranged it for six-part unaccompanied chorus - a very different sound to the full orchestra and massed choir of the Parry version, and a very intimate and beautiful one.  You would be welcome to have a listen to my choir singing it in the cloisters of Wells Cathedral, one of England's oldest and most beautiful churches!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuoTCzM_IOg   and there are more details of the score  at http://www.freewebstore.org/Fraser-Wilson-Music/Jerusalem/p1610060_7611557.aspx   - All the best!
