Christmas: Favorite concert works
Date: Tue, 13 Jan 1998 16:50:45 -0500 (EST) From: David Griggs-Janower Subject: Xmas rep (compilation - long)
My original three-part post asked for favorite SATB works for December holiday concerts that we'd all like to share with colleagues. Due to some problems with our server here, I'm not sure I received evereything that was sent, so apologize in advance for anything missing.
The three sections: a cappella; with harp; with one or more instruments (but not too many!) not including keyboard.
Here are the results, and thanks to all who submitted repertory suggestions.
David Griggs-Janower Albany Pro Musica, NY
A CAPPELLA:
I have written two SATB a cappella arrangements of Yiddish Chanuka songs:
O, Ir Kleyne Likhtelekh (O, You Little Lights) by Morris Rosenfeld Ikh Bin a Kleyner Dreydl (I Am A Little Dreydl) by Mikhl Gelbart
These arrangements are of moderate (or slightly more than moderate) difficulty. They have been sung by Di Goldene Keyt/The Yiddish Chorale, The Workmen's Circle Chorus, and the Jewish Folk Chorus of San Francisco, among others.
Ikh Bin a Kleyner Dreydl will be available from Carl Fischer in the spring (with both Yiddish and English lyrics). O, Ir Kleyne Likhtelekh, which is entirely in Yiddish, is available from me.
Mark Zuckerman
