If you have 30 minutes to do this, it was very easy...and cheap. Plus, I could literally make them as big as I wanted to! I tell the kids it is a photograph of a giant using the hand signals! Thanks again Choralist! Blake Leister Dawson Elementary blakeleister(a)hotmail.com ***** Here is a site that I found with the Curwen chromatic solfege! I hope this will help! http://busboy.sped.ukans.edu/~ccm/erin/curwenphoto.html Stephanie Meeks Music Ed Major at Univ. of North Texas stargazer2123(a)yahoo.com ***** Here is a site with pictures of the signs http://busboy.sped.ukans.edu/~ccm/erin/curwenphoto.html Lee Thomas Director of Choral & Vocal Music/Adult Programs Unitarian Universalist Church of Asheville Asheville, NC ***** do a search with Curwen Hand Signs...there must be 10 sites which show you everything........ Brent Miller NJ ACDA ***** this is just diatonic, but you can ask the owner of the site for more..... http://courses.wcupa.edu/frichmon/kodaly/index.html ***** Try http://spider.georgetowncollege.edu/music/larue/music315/Curwen%20Hand%20Signs.html Aline Oh, by the way, the site I just gave you only includes the fi, ta and si. All other chromatic notes are done by adding the other hand in front as in a ti symbol in front. You would essentially only need them for the di and ri as fi, ta and si take care of the others. Aline ***** My understaning is that Curwen did not create hand signals for all of them. Here are the ones I know. There are probably varieties of same. For di, ri, and li, use the regular hand signal and raise the pinky finger. For se, and me, lower the pinky. fi - turn FA upside down so thumbe is pointing up si - use SOL and raise the thumb te - is Ti pointed downward le - is LA turned upside down ra - is RE pointing downward I hope that helps. Greg A. Lapp Centennial High School Lappers2(a)aol.com Bakersfield, CA ***** I did a search on google and found this site: http://busboy.sped.ukans.edu/~ccm/erin/curwenphoto.html I hope that helps! Sarah Koenig BME Student-Baldwin Wallace Conservatory of Music Berea, OH ***** Check the choraltalk archives. I posted an identical query a few months ago and got lots of responses. Unfortunately, they are on my school computer which is out of operation at this time. By now you have probably had a lot of response to your inquiry, but this is the site I found the hand signs in chromatic scale, descending form with each illustrated by a picture in colour. http://busboy.sped.ukans.edu/~ccm/erin/curwenphoto.html Hope you are able to connect OK. Robyn Australia ***** The Kodaly Society of Canada has the chromatic handsigns. Their website is http://cnet.unb.ca/achn/kodaly/resources/curwen.html Good luck Donna Cianciosi Music Specialist - Barclay House Methodist Ladies' College Claremont Western Australia AUSTRALIA |
