Duruflé, motets, translationThank you all for your help with the translation of Duruflé: 4 Motets.. My question was urgent (Concert will take place on sunday, 10th of January). Several people answered to me. These are the results: 1. A few people told me of an important book: "Translations and Annotations of Choral Repertiore Volume I: Sacred Latin Texts" Ron Jeffers - ISBN 0-9621532-1-4 I think there must be a similar book im german. 2. Translations (two english version are incomplete. I did the german version): The problem was: In fact I could translate Latin to german, but only each word alone. I did not understand the meaning of the phrases (esp. in TANTUM ERGO). As I am protestant I am not used to these certain "church-lyrics" in latin. When I read your english translations, I could understand the meaning of the latin sentences. UBI CARITAS Ubi cáritas et ámor, Déus ibi est. Congregávit nos in únum Chrísti ámor. Exsultémus et in ípso jucundémur. Timeámus et amémus Déum vívum. Et ex córde diligámus nos sincéro. Ubi cáritas et ámor, Déus ibi est. Amen. a) Where there is charity and love, God is there. The love of Christ has gathered us together. Let us rejoice and be glad in it. Let us revere and love the living God. And from a sincere heart, let us love one another. Where there is charity and love, God is there. Amen. b) Where love and charity are found, God is also there. The love of Christ has gathered us in one body. Let us rejoice and be happy in him. Let us fear and love the living God, and with a sincere heart, let us love one another. Where love and charity are found, God is also there. Amen. c) Where there is charity and love, God is there. The love of Christ has gathered us together. Let us rejoice and be glad in it. Let us revere and love the living God. And from a sincere heart let us love one another. d) Wo Güte und Liebe ist, da ist Gott. To the Be-getter and the Begotten Let there be praise and jubiliation, Salvation, honor and power also; Also be there blessing, To the One proceeding from the both Let there be equal praise. Amen. b) Bowing, let us venerate this great sacrament. May the old symbol give way to the new rite. May faith supplement our defective senses. To the Father and the Son, praise and jubilation, Salvation, honour, power and blessing be given! Equal praise to the Spirit who proceeds from them both! Amen. c) Let us therefore, bowing low, Venerate so great a Sacrament: And let the old law Give way to the new rite: Let faith afford assistance To the deficiency of the senses. To the Begetter and the Begotten Let there be praise and jubilation, Salvation and honor, And power and blessing: And to the One proceeding from both Let there be equal praise. d) Laßt uns, indem wir uns verneigen, das erhabene Sakrament ehren. Das alte Gesetz soll dem neuen Bund weichen. Der Glaube muß enthüllen, was dem schwachen Sinn entgeht. Gott Vater und Sohn sei Lob und Preis, Heil, Ehre und Kraft dargeboten. Auch dem Heiligen Geist, der von beiden ausgeht, gebührt das gleiche Lob. Amen. Thank you, Thomas -- Postkarten per e-mail versenden kann jeder. Aber mit Musik.....? Für Dich kein Problem!
