A Quest for Choral Experiences at the VaticanDate: April 7, 2009
Dear Choral Colleagues, I am fortunate to be conducting our Samford University A Cappella Choir on a tour this May that begins at Notre Dame in Paris and ends with the Choir singing Mass at St.Peter's in the Vatican. Recently I was in conversation with my good friend Steve Bolster of Berea College (KY), who was relating a rather unnerving account of his choir's Vatican experience, in terms of sudden changes to the programming, on-the-spot excerpting of musical portions, and so forth. I would be so grateful to any who have had the opportunity to sing at the Vatican to relate your experiences, positive and negative. Certainly if there is enough call, I can post a summary (though that will soon be unnecessary on ChoralNet). In any event, I would like to be prepared for all possibilities, mostly to ensure my dedicated choristers of the very best exerience on the tour. Thanks kindly, Tim Timothy Paul Banks, D.Mus.A.
