"Elijah" at ASU

Culminating its semester-long celebration of the music of Mendelssohn, Arizona State University will present Elijah on Thursday, April 30, 2009, at 7:30 p.m. in Gammage Auditorium.  There will be a pre-concert talk by David Schildkret at 6:30 p.m.  The concert is free, with no tickets required.
The performance features ASU faculty members Robert Barefield as Elijah, Carole FitzPatrick, soprano, and Judy May, mezzo-soprano.  Tenor Randall Black of Murray State University in Kentucky rounds out the principal quartet.  Secondary soloists are students Allison Stanford, soprano, Anna Nadasky, mezzo-soprano, Joel Wolcott, tenor, and Ryan Downey and Dong Kyu Oh, basses.  Joining the soloists are the ASU Chamber Singers, Symphonic Chorale, Choral Union, and Symphony Orchestra.  David Schildkret conducts.
Accompanying the performance will be images of artworks illustrating the oratorio projected on large screens near the stage.  The images have been collected by the Education Department of the Phoenix Art Museum.
