Fall under the spell of the Peninsula Women’s Chorus (PWC) as they sing incantations, luring in listeners with their spring concert series “Les Sirènes.” The lush title piece, “Les Sirènes,” is a masterwork by early 20th century composer Lili Boulanger, who won the coveted Prix de Rome at the age of 19, the first woman to do so. The concert also premieres PWC’s newly-commissioned piece, “Martes,” by local composer Joseph Gregorio. In addition, the PWC continues its Landmark Series, celebrating innovative compositions for the treble voice, highlighting Arne Mellnäs’ avant-garde “Aglepta.” The program also includes Francis Poulenc’s charming “Petites Voix” and Carol Barnett’s amusing “Song of Perfect Propriety,” among other choral delights. The concerts will take place on May 16th at 4pm at St. Patrick’s Seminary in Menlo Park, and on May 17th at 2:30pm at Mission Santa Clara on the Santa Clara University campus.
