Russian Chamber Chorus of New York concerts in June

Location: New York, USA
Choir type: Chamber Choirs and Vocal Ensembles
Voicing: Mixed
The Russian Chamber Chorus of New York, Nikolai Kachanov, artistic director, presents
"A Celebration of Russian Folk Song"
The previous two concerts of the 2008-2009 season included works by Bortnyansky, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Golovanov, Tolstiakov and settings of Russian Orthodox texts by Schnittke, Penderecki, and Tavener in December; in March, Siberian composers Yuri Ashenkov and Yuri Yukechev concluded a program on "Sacred and Earthly Love" which began with settings of texts from the Biblical  Song of Songs by composers of different time periods and nations.
Using a very different vocal palette, RCCNY now presents compositions based on Russian folk songs,  songs which spread from town to village, arrangements of folk songs, authentic unarranged peasant songs, and concludes with Four Russian Songs by the contemporary composer Zakhar Blyakher.
