A Taste of Bach

Location: California, USA
Choir type: Community Choirs
Voicing: Mixed
It takes great ingredients to make a great meal!
Soli Deo Gloria (Allen H Simon, conductor) presents A Taste of Bach, a program of cantatas related to the B minor mass. Some of these cantatas were based on the B minor mass, some provided models for the Mass, and others were parallel derivatives, both versions based on some earlier work, since lost.
Bach was a master chef who knew how to combine many delicacies into a sumptuous banquet. For those of you who are familiar with the B minor mass, this is a great opportunity to better understand Bach's compositional process. For those of you to whom this is all new, taste and enjoy. This man could cook!
This concert also features soprano Pamela Sebastian, alto Judy Clark, tenor Jeffrey Barnett, bass Ward Belding, and the always-excellent Orchestra Gloria.
Performance times:
Cantata 11 "Ascension Oratorio" (complete)
Cantata 12 "Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen" (sinfonia and opening chorus only)
Cantata 29 "Wir danken dir, Gott" (selected movements)
Cantata 46 "Schauet doch und sehet" (opening chorus) (chamber choir)
Cantata 191 "Gloria in excelsis Deo" (complete)
