Tried to respond to a choralist posting.  Had to log in.  Did that.  Was not redirected to the post I was trying to respond to.  The amount of time it now takes to respond to a posting has me feeling I'm no longer going to respond.  Wonder how other long-time choralist members feel.  I assume some things have imrpoved with the new format, but this vital element seems to me to be discouraging the back and forth that was so great about choral list.  And sometimes we want to respond directly to the writer.

Mimi,
I hope you don't mind my having approved your post for public view (I'm hoping that was your intent). I think your comments are quite valid and helpful. I'm sure Allen will see this and post a helpful response. I agree that when attempting to respond, but interrupted by a login screen, the user should indeed be automatically redirected to the specific post after logging in. That's an "industry standard" with this type of forum system.

Yes, we're going to fix this.

It's now Nov. 5, 2009 and I'm having the same problem.  I see that many other members are able to successfully reply.  I wanted to respond to Kirin Nielson's post about S. American repertoire--but after logging in could not get to her query.  Most times I don't even try.  Sorry, but for me the old system was so useful and easy.

Suggestion:  could there be a requirement that the place of a concert be in the subject?  Sometimes it doesn't appear anywhere; sometimes a place is given without the state.

Can you clarify your last request? When I look here, I see all the locations listed.

Mimi, I just tested this feature again and it worked properly for me. I was viewing this topic, but not logged in. I then clicked on "Reply" and was taken to the log in screen, and once I logged in, I was taken right back to the thread with a box into which I'm entering this reply. It's generally a good idea to log in right away when on a site with membership/subscriber features, which is why there's a "Keep me logged in on this computer" option on the login screen (which will work unless you're not using your own computer, or you have some of your browser features disabled).

There is one difference in what people who are logged in see vs. those who aren't. Those who are not logged in only see two "Reply>>" buttons--one under the first post in a thread, and one more after all responses (if any). Those who are already logged in are also presented with individual "Reply>>" buttons in the boxes of each of the existing replies in addition to the top and bottom buttons. I doubt this has anything to do with your issue, but perhaps Allen could explain that difference. To troubleshoot your problem, we'd need a detailed, step-by-step description of what happens when you try to reply to something on ChoralNet.

Peace,
David Topping
