The Orpheus Choir of Toronto, under the direction of Robert Cooper, C. M. announces its 45th season presenting four distinctive musical evenings beginning October 30 with Orpheus Cinema: featuring the 1923 silent film classic The Hunchback of Notre Dame, with a live choral soundtrack of works by French Romantic composers.
Big Band Christmas on December 22 brings the Toronto premiere of Swedish composer Nils Lindberg’s Christmas Cantata, a swinging, upbeat rendition of the Christmas story with “Basie-esque big band” adaptations of standard Christmas carols.
This year Orpheus collaborates with Gerald Neufeld and the award-winning Guelph Chamber Choir to present Vespers, featuring the classic Rachmaninoff Vespers, on February 28, 2010. To close the season, and in celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Sidgwick Scholars Programme, on May 8th, 2010 Orpheus presents the Toronto premiere of Handel’s dramatic third oratorio Athalia.
