Basic theory software

Hi listers,

I am looking for a basic theory software program that I can use in conjunction with my sight curriculum for the middle and high school choirs.  My district has the ability for students to log onto the network and access software.  The theory software I'm looking for should contain a built in assessment tool to track students' progress.  Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

I have begun to use Alfred's Essentials of Music Theory. It is an integrated program with books, eartraining CDs, extra worksheets and software. You could use the software as a supplement to another print system fairly easily. There are three levels in the system which cover everything from "whole-note theory" basics through chord progressions and simple forms. There is a built in assessment to track the student's progress. Version 2 is currently available, but Alfred is currently advertising version 3, which will have web-based capabilities, allowing student's to access the program and complete assignments from home. They are still not giving a release date on version 3, though they have a preview on their website, www.alfred.com.

Good luck!
