Midi sequence into Finale .mus

Hi,

I have some MIDI sequences, thanks to cpdl, which I want to turn into Finale .mus files for arrangement purposes.  My Finale 2007 will allow import of "midi scan" but when I try to import the midi sequences, it is not allowed: can't find the file, error message when I choose "all files."

Any advice?

best, Paul

Paul -- I think it will be easier than you expect.  Assuming you have the midi file saved, just try Finale's normal "Open" command from the drop-down "File" menu.  Finale should then open a dialog where you can adjust settings for creating a ".mus" (Finale) document.  You'll have to add lyrics, play with formatting, etc., but this should give you the notes in a score.  You may find it easier to go back and edit the midi file, e.g. putting each line on a separate staff if necessary, and then re-open it in Finale.  Good luck, chris

Hi Chris,

Thank you!  My problem was using the "import" command.  Your method worked perfectly.  Thanks again, Paul

I'm running Finale 2009 so I'm not sure if these instructions will work for your version.  They come right out of the maunal in my help file.  Good luck.

P.S. You'll need to do a lot of editing to reconstruct all the details that are in your original sequences.  This importing process will only capture the raw data - notes, rhythms, meters, keys, etc.
