I need choir folders for my choir

Hello fellow music educators!

I am a first year secondary choir director in South Korea so I am in need of a lot of guidance from the well experienced choral directors.  I am looking for choir folders that are economical, sturdy, and functional.  What would you recommend?

Thank you for your help!

 Hello, Jung.

The first thing that comes to mind for me is "duo-tang"  they now have vinyl covers (rather than the old-school paper covers), can hold upwards of 500 sheets (depending on the style), and come in a variety of colours, including 'basic black'. The vinyl is virtually indestructible, not to mention washable!.

While not as 'professional' as board-back binders, duo-tangs do serve the same function and are a lot less expensive!

When I think back to my days in school choirs (and later assisting the director) and all of the multiple sheafs of paper that were shuffled at every performance, it boggles the mind. I'm not sure how we ever did it!

I am currently the music ministry director of a mid-size church choir and we actually use the vinyl duo-tangs (although we have 'proper' (?) 'choir folders' on order...courtesy of a donation to the choir).

Hope this is of some assistance to you.

Hi, Jung.  Since I don't know the situation in South Korea, I can only give a general answer.

If you have local music stores that are willing to order a set of folders for you, it is certainly good to support your local businesses.  You will probably pay about the same as if you ordered from a catalog on line, but your local store will make a profit and they will probably cover the shipping cost.

Any company that carries musical supplies will probably have an on-line catalog that will include both choir and band/orchestra folders, in a variety of materials and sizes.  I usually check "The Woodwind & Brasswind" Master Catalog here in the U.S., and they have a full page of music folders ("folios" in the Index), with choral folders ranging from U.S. $2.99 to $15.99.  And some catalogs give a discount for a larger number of folders ordered at the same time.

All the choral folders seem to measure 9x12", allowing them to hold 8.5x11" pages.  I don't know about A4 pages, since we do not use those here.

All the best,

John

Use black three-ring binders; hole-punch the music, and sing out.  Easy and practical.

It's certainly an easy and practical way to damage the music. Don't do it
