1st International Choir Competition "VOCI D'EUROPA"

The Coro Polifonico Turritano organize the 1st choral singing competition: “Voci d’Europa International Prize”. The competition will take place in Porto Torres (Sardinia) on Saturday 1st May 2010; it will be reserved exclusively for eight amateur choirs. The "amateur" definition does not include conductors and eventual instrumentalists. The competition is structured in one single category (mixed, male or female choirs and choral groups made up by a maximum of 35 members and a minimum of 8) and it is divided into two phases: Preliminary part and Final round. During the preliminary part every choir will have to present a program that include: a) One piece (a capella) written between the XV and the XVI century: b) One piece (a capella) written between the XVII and XVIII century; c) Two free choice pieces: at least one has to belong to a living author; in addition one of the two can be a piece that represents the folk tradition of the choir’s country. The preliminary part must not exceed 20 minutes During the final round the qualified choirs will have to present a program that include: a) Two sacred songs (a capella) written between the XIX and the XX century. One of the two pieces has to be written by one of the following authors: Anton Bruckner, Felix Mendelssohn, or Johannes Brahms; b) Two pieces (a capella) belonging to a composition or collection dated back to a free choice historical period. Just one of the pieces presented in the previous part will be allowed.

The final round must not exceed 20 minutes.
