A Score - Reading Seminar introducing new Alice Parker's Melodious Accord Hymnal, January 18-20, 2010:
9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.; 2:30 - 4:30 p.m.; and January 19, 7:30-9:30 p.m.
The Hymnal is a collection of tunes culled from Alice Parker's many sacred cantatas, suites, anthems and arrangements, to be published in the 2010-2011 season. Most are not available elsewhere: all have been set specifically for this collection. The 3 days of study will be based on a Sampler of 30 melodies from the collection, ranging from chant to madrigal, from back-country vigor to formal praise, from soaring melody to kinetic dance.
The Score Reading is open to all church musicians; choir directors, choir members, organists, worship planners and congregational singers; as well as all those who love to sing. Ms. Parker will apply the principles outlined in her book The Anatomy of Melody to the analysis, teaching and performance of these songs.
The fee for the Seminar is $320. This includes a copy of the Sampler, the registration fee and tuition. Reduced rates for 5 or more from the same choir.
January 19, 2010, 7:30 p.m. A 'SING from the Sampler'
Alice Parker will lead a Hymn SING using the Alice Parker's Melodious Accord Hymn Sampler.
Open to the public. No charge, but there will be a $5.00 charge for the Sampler for those who are not participating in the Score-Reading Seminar.
All events will be held at The Park Avenue Christian Church, 1010 Park Avenue and 85th St., New York City.
