Schola Magdalena is a five-voice women’s ensemble specializing in ancient music and led by Artistic Director Stephanie Martin.

The music of Guillaume Dufay is not often heard live in Toronto, though he is acknowledged as one of the most influential composers of the early Renaissance. This concert features mass movements and motets by the famed Burgundian, as well as Gregorian chant, secular songs of the late medieval period, a taste of Hildegard of Bingen, and a new composition created for Schola Magdalena’s Nuit Blanche recital.

The new composition, Missa Faciem ad Faciem, was written for the ensemble by its director Stephanie Martin, who regularly composes for the group and arranges medieval music to suit the five female voices of Schola Magdalena.

Schola Magdalena’s recent CD recording, “O Gracious Light”, has had an extraordinary reception from its audience. Many listeners have commented that the recording evokes an unmistakable feeling of calm.

Join us in January to enjoy this ancient and powerful music in the tonally exquisite acoustic of the historic Church of Saint Mary Magdalene, Toronto.
