Staff Recital

The music staff in our district are considering performing in a recital with a few friends and family members.  I would like to know if anyone else has tried this and if you have any suggestions.

I've never heard of its being done, although it's commonplace on college faculties where many are chosen because of their performing abilities.  But I do think it is a really marvelous idea!

We did one ONCE. Half the faculty really enjoyed it, the other half thought it was an extra added stress and have vowed never to do another. Including family and friends might help to alleviate that. Make sure you know WHY you're doing it and what will be done with any $ from admission or donations. We did it on a donation basis and got a few hundred dollars with relatively low attendance.

Good luck.

Our district Music staff did a recital for several years.  It started out to assist two colleagues with gravely ill spouses.  They were still raising young children.  It was a benefit for them.  Eventually it turned out to be a way to provide our students with summer muisc camp scholarships.  Unforutnately, when contract talks got ugly, the majority of our department weren't willing to do extra events while arguing about the salary scale currently in place (6 years ago).  The sad thing is that we never got back to faculty recital, but we still have kids who are in need of financial support for summer music camps/clinics.  One's performance in the faculty recital was not mandatory.  Performance if you wish.

I personally enjoyed it.  It gave us a chance to work together as perfomrance artist.  More importantly, thoguh, is that we showed people that we can actually do what we teach their children everyday!  Great PR for the district.  We shoudl really get back to that faculty recital again.

Good luck.
