Gospel music, two/three part for a small church choir

Hello fellow choral conductors!

I am looking for a gospel anthem, two or three part, appropriate for a small church choir with limited reading skills-however, they are enthusiastic  towards challenges.

Thank you!

Dr. Michael Kissinger has composed one of the most unique gospel works, "Sacred Cantata," for choir. It is published by Sound Music Publications:www.smpjazz.com
You can hear and see several portions of the selections from this work by going to the site. The selections can be performed as individual works or as a total work. Easy but effective. Performed with piano and bass and drums optional.
Cheers,
Frank

 Hi, Nancy.

I have seen Brian Tate work very successfully with church choirs on gospel music, and his "Lift Up Your Voice" or "We Are One" were both really enjoyed by the groups I saw.  If you go to his website: briantatemusic.com, you can find where to get these tunes and more.  His "Hold Me, Rock Me" (SATB) is one of my choir's favourite tunes to just pull out and sing.  It has a bit of a gospel flavour as well.

Instead of a single work, you might consider purchasing a set of hymnals.  Lift Every Voice And Sing (LEVAS) (Church Hymnal Corporation), the African-American Heritage Hymnal (GIA), Songs of Zion (Cokesbury-Abingdon Press), the New National Baptist Hymnal (National Baptist Publishing Board, Triad Publications) would each be good choices, each with pluses and minues.

Goin' up a yonder by Walter Hawkins is always a hit and is available for upper voices published by Boosey & Hawkes/Doreen Rao's Choral Music Experience. Otherwise there are some simple arrangements of gospel songs in Voice for Life Songbook 2 published by Royal School of Church Music (www.rscm.com).

I have a small choir and they love gospel and spirituals. Some favorites - Lord I Know I Been Changed (spiritual)(Lorenz), Gloryland Medley (Brentwood Benson), He's Never Failed Me Yet (Hal Leonard)
