World Harmony Folk: community singing news from all overDate: January 18, 2010
Hello,
No need to state the obvious about singing more in this new year. The news is full of stories of people who have overcome individual hardships, political struggles, and community disasters, with the help of music, especially music that arises from within themselves. And yes, it can arise in anyone. It is simply part of being human.
So let your music out. Take some classes or workshops, join a choir, plan a music vacation. There is a whole world of singing opportunities out there, waiting for you to join!
This newsletter is all about where you can go to sing or learn about singing or find others who want to sing with you! Click below to read the news online about hundreds of singing courses and holidays and workshops and choirs wherever you may be or may be headed. And send us your notices if you want to draw others into your singing world. There are singing enthusiasts everywhere...
This month, our website has an ever growing list of community choirs. We are adding to the music links and resources page as well.
Our network of singers have submitted listings of singing events for you to participate in, wherever you live or travel. Follow the website links to find the choirs, workshops or singing networks for you.
This month, for example, there are workshops with Moira Smiley in California, Kathy Bullock in Massachusetts, Frank Kane in Dublin, Alice Parker in New York. You can attend a harmony workshop with the Good Lovelies in Halifax, a WorldSongs weekend with Chris Rowbury in Stratford-upon-Avon, a winter songwriting retreat with Katherine Wheatley & James Gordon in Stouffville. Those are just a few of the fantastic places and people to sing with over the next couple of weeks. There are so many wonderful opportunities to sing beautiful music with inspiring songleaders. In February, there are even more.
Follow the links on our website to find the information for your area (if people from your area are contributing), for choirs (lots starting a new term this month), resources, singing weekends and longer vacations. The programs keep coming! Send us notices of your events and we will share them with our network, all over, everywhere!
Happy New Year
