Of the two pieces the Verdi Requiem is very well known as being quite incredible. The Holst Hymn of Jesus is not quite so well known, but it is described as awesome and ecstatic jubilant music filled with mystic majesty. The Conductor, John Pryce-Jones will manage the two choirs and also the North of England Chamber orchestra, together with four brilliant soloists who are Claire Rutter - sop, Madeleine Shaw - mezzo, John Hudson - tenor and Gidon Saks - bass.
Holst's beautiful Invocation for 'cello and orchestra also forms part of the concert and features as soloist the renowned Russian 'cellist, Alexander Volpov, principal cello in the North of England Concert Orchestra, and guest principal with many other leading orchestras.
Tickets are available from the theatre box office by telephoning 01422 351158 or from Halifax Choral Society on 01422 374216.
