Purchasing scores from Europe

Colleagues,
Has any one had any experience with purchasing scores from small independent European publishers? I need to make a purchase of an important score for my research and the German company does not have a secure website, they just want me to send my credit card number in an email, or I can fax or call it in. I am not inclined to call Germany for this and I am cautious about giving credit information overseas online, but perhaps I am overreacting...My credit card company's advice is that they can only deal with a problem after the fact.

The score is important to me. What is the best way to handle this securely?

Patricia:  I would STRONGLY advise not sending your card number to an unsecure website!

Are you familiar with Educational Music Service?  Google them.  They may be able to help, and you should at least ask.  (I'm assuming that you're in the U.S.)

Hey Patricia,

I'm with John 100% on this:  If anybody can help you, Don Boyer and his people at Ed Mus can do it.  Here's their website:  http://emsmusic.com/

Dear Ms. Corbin:

I am pleased to say that I can direct you
to a company that can help you not only to
obtain the scores you want, but to save a
considerable amount of money as well.

Scott Dixon is the owner of Octavo Music--
phone number 800.844.6874--I have done
business with him exclusively for the past
almost 20 years--he discounts everything
30%--yes, 30%--his service is absolutely
impeccable--he is utterly customer oriented--
and never once has let me down.

I purchased many, many foriegn editions from
Octavo--e.g., Barenreiter editions of St Matthew,
as well as the orchestra parts; lots of
Hanssler and Carus-Verlag scores; and
many octavos for church and university
use--always received them on schedule--
and saved a lot of money for individual
singers and organizations for which I
worked.

Give him a call--ask him about the scores
in which you are interested--and give him
a try--I assure you that you will not be
disappointed.

Best wishes for your performances.

Cordially,

Thomas Sheets, D.M.A.

Most Major Orchestra, Choral and Band conductors and librarians buy all of their music from Educational Music Service. EMS will have their German office obtain the score and then ship it to the U.S. In 30 years of doing business with them I have been completely satisfied with every order.
