Looking for "In this heart"

Hello.

Would anyone know where I could find a choral arrangement of Sinead O'connor's "In this heart"? I'm looking primarily for an arrangement for women's voices, but would be interested in finding any arrangment as well.

Thank you,

Nathan:  Since you havne't posted a bio on ChoralNet, there's no way to tell where you are, but what you probably need is a special arrangement, which mean you need to find an arranger.  I have had students in my Vocal/Choral Arranging class who could take on something like this (and of course others who would not be ready for it yet).  So ask at any college music department near you.  Or you may be able to do it yourself.  Any of the experienced arrangers on this List could probably do it, but I assume that you're on a fixed budget.

Converting from a solo CD to a choral arrangement takes some experience and involves a lot of choices and decsions, but why not give it a try?  The approach I take in my class is that if you're a musician, you're already an arranger, but you might not know it until you try!  Your first choice is whether to keep the recorded key or change the key.  Your second choice will be whether to keep parts of it as a solo (the easy way out!) or whether to reconceive it for ensemble (the creative way to approach it!!).

And your first JOB, probably, will be to transcribe from the CD to paper, so you have something to work with.  But that's why you studied melodic, rhythmic, and harmonic dictation in music theory, right?  This is where you start to use those skills.

All the best,

John

Hi Nathan,

I seem to remember a beautiful arrangement sung by Ithaca College's contemporary women's a cappella group Premium Blend.  The original is 4-part, but I think Premium Blend added a fifth harmony line to make a few really beautiful crunchy chords all in treble(ish) register.

I can't seem to find out on Premium Blend's website, but my sister used to direct the group.  I'll do a little research and contact you privately.  I'm not sure whether she has permission to legally disseminate the score.  (They may have learned the arrangement by ear.)

It's such a gorgeous song -- such a nice choice for any concert -- more people should sing it and hear it.
